How do you feel about Wolf Quest?

Since I've heard a lot of mixed opinions about this movie, I figured I'd start a thread in which we discuss our opinions on it.

Personally, I really like it. I do understand why it's so polarizing, but I really enjoyed it. I think the fact that I'm a huge sucker for tribal legends and stuff enhances my liking for Wolf Quest. The songs are pretty good too. They are much better than a lot of the Land Before Time sequel songs, but not quite as good as a lot of Disney songs are. My favorite song from Wolf Quest is definitely The Grand Design. I also love how Wolf Quest focused on the animal characters, and especially on Aleu's wolf heritage (I'm actually a pretty big wolf lover).

Indeed I'm a wolf lover myself, but I'd sooner watch something from National Geographic than watch Wolf Quest. I've seen bits and pieces but was never impressed with the idea, mainly because there was never a need for Balto to be "half wolf" in the original story. If it ever shows up on Netflix (maybe's its there but I never bothered to look) where I can essentially watch it without paying a crazy price I might give the whole thing a shot one day.

Well, all three Balto movies are on Netflix, so maybe get some Clorox and some Tide Pods ready and watch Wolf Quest.

Alright now I watched the whole thing....I could almost do a Nostalgia Critic rant after watching that! It was bad!!!

My running commentary is as follows:


Heaven help me. Already seeing the terrible CG-traditional blend that Universal liked pulling off at this time.
In the first 3 minutes!

Hehe....when he sees the pups the first time I was so wanting to hear "Jenna....they can't be mine....I'm neutered."
Sounds like they got Jodi Benson again for the singing voice.
Gah, only 15 minutes without the Phil Collins bears.

The longer Maurice LaMarche tries to sound like Kevin Bacon, the worse he gets. He tried to yell as him and it didn't work. :stuck_out_tongue:
Got to stop watching this for now....try and finish later.
Not liking it again because it took the one thing that really had nothing to do with Balto and made it the plot.
Muk and Luk are pretty far south if they found a frog.....

The young wolf repeats what Jenner from NIMH says.

Wait....the whole clan knows Balto's name? I don't think his name was ever spoken.
Wha, wait...Balto suddenly decides its ok to leave her when she almost dies under the ice floe.....talk about waffling.
And.....they don't bother to show that Balto ever makes it home.

So glad I didn't pay for that film.
Like I said #1 and #3 had historical relevancy to who Balto is.....this was someone's bad fanfiction.

I was thrilled that a sequel to "Balto" got made. I really wanted Balto And Jenna to have puppies. Balto being uh...Fully intact was one of the creative liberties that I didn't mind. I love Balto And Jenna as a couple and I can't see them staying just friends.

I felt that the story was very good. Balto's wolf heritage is part of who his animated self is so I enjoined seeing that explored.

I hope I do not contradict myself, because despite how much I love this movie I have more than a few nitpicks:

None of the original voice cast return (Direct to DVD sequel, that just happens)

Balto's Eyes. Balto's Yellow Sclera is one of his most handsome features, it was a huge mistake for Balto and Aleu not to have them.

Balto still lives on his boat. With how the 1st movie ended I was certain with between Rosy's Dad bringing Balto into the hospital to see Rosy, and Jenna giving him that what I would say was a Do you wanna come home with me look. I was sure that Rosy's family would have let Balto come live with them. Oh well Balto And Jenna seem to have the hang of living a married live from separate residences.

I wish Jenna had a bigger part or at least some interaction with Adult Aleu

The ending felt rushed (I can't remember where, I believe Phil Weinstein did say that they were running out of time at the end of the movie and had to rush the ending.

I also would have likes to see Balto make it home.

I can overlook or explain away most of these nitpicks. that is why I can so easily just see what is good in the movie.

I certainly loved Wolf Quest it shows a deeper tone about how one should feel about themselves, remember with Aleuo (I can’t remember her name lol) says that she knows *what* she is but not *who* she is. She’s basically been conflicting about herself since she’s been kept a secret of her nature until she was a grown pup, and even then her father kept reassuring her and nurturing her. Until she finally realized that she’s more wolf then husky. The ending is really what set me in and made me really tear up since we never get to hear from her ever again.
