Basically, how outspoken or secretive are you about your love of Balto?
For me, I'm rather outspoken about the fact that I'm into Balto on other forums and such, but in real life, I'm actually pretty secretive about it. I think perhaps I'm so guarded about this because of how my family feels about my Land Before Time obsession (which I literally advertise to the world by having LBT charms and stickers on my water bottles, backpack, laptop, etc, and that's how my family discovered that I was into LBT). I remember seeing LBT as a kid, and I still love it (obviously), but my family has no recollection of me having seen it as a kid, nor do they have any fondness of the fact that I like it now. As for Balto, that's one that I actually never saw as a kid, likely because I was sheltered from a lot of the more intense kids' movies out there (which is a fact that my family has been using to try to convince me that I never saw LBT as a kid), and I doubt Balto would've been on the approved list. Accordingly, I plan to keep my family in the dark about my love of Balto for the foreseeable future. However, I do plan to tell some friends of mine who are fellow Land Before Time fans about my love of Balto, and maybe get them into Balto too. I also did tell a few people who were in one of my classes in college last year that I had recently discovered Balto and fell in love with it.

^ You'd probably find that most of those who saw LBT, saw Balto as well. If you're watching LBT at that young age, good chance you'd watch other animated films too. I'm a big Disney fan, most everyone knows it, family, friends, co-workers. That was a big joke in college dorms, I remember some shouting at like 2am in the morning when they were drunk that Disneyland burned down. For those that don't know any better, Balto is just another Disney film so it would be natural that I probably watched it, and nobody would care one way or the other. They know I'm big into wolves, dogs, canines, foxes, so again, a film like this wouldn't be a surprise to anyone who knew me. Certainly nothing to be embarrassed about.

^ I'm a pretty big Disney fan myself, and my family is mostly cool with that (they think LBT is from Disney, and I've yet to tell them that it's actually from Universal ). I'm not at all ashamed about my love of LBT, Balto, The Lion King, or any other children's movies that I like. Anyone who doesn't like that I'm into any movies like that can just buzz off and leave me be. My mother is actually a big opponent of the philosophy that you should "outgrow" your love for children's movies; it's specifically LBT that my family has issues with. Everyone knows that I'm a big Disney fan, and that I'm an animal lover who is rather fond of wolves/dogs/foxes (the animals from Balto and several Disney movies), as well as dinosaurs/mosasaurs/pterosaurs (the animals from The Land Before Time) and African wildlife (the animals from The Lion King).

^ Just along the lines of what your mother feels, what does she feel about those who create animated films? How would she interpret a guy like Walt Disney who used animation to tell stories for everyone, not just a kid? Or even John Lasseter who helmed Pixar for all the creative stories like Wall-E or Inside Out? Those are only for kids? I don't think so!

Let me reiterate this line: That means that she does not like the notion that people should outgrow their love for animated movies after a certain age. She herself is 50 and loves movies like The Lion King and Mary Poppins, and when she first found out that I was into The Land Before Time, she was perfectly cool with it, but then one night, my mother and I were in the car, and she asked me to tell her about LBT, so I gave her a brief synopsis of the original LBT movie as best as I could at the time (I remember being super tired, so I doubt I gave a terrific description of it). Long story short, my mother lost all her fondness of my love of LBT after that, most likely because of how much I love it, and the fact that I vividly remember having seen it (along with half a dozen of the sequels) as a kid. Now she's swearing left and right that she would've never shown me LBT because of how intense it is. You know what I did? I read that line backwards and thought you said "proponent" of that you should outgrow your love for children's films. Ha! Well I feel dumb now!

Well, that explains a lot about what you said But yeah, basically, given how my family feels about my love for The Land Before Time, I think I’ll keep them in the dark about Balto for now, and tell them when I’m ready to. Honestly, they very well might take better to my love of Balto, since I won’t be having petty debates with them about whether or not I grew up with it. Of course, if my mother is ever browsing Netflix and says something like “Hey Shane, I just found a movie called Balto that I think you’ll love”, I will spill the beans right then and there.

Just say you're studying American history....don't have to hide much of anything since Balto was real!

My family, My Friends, and anyone who is willing to talk to me about my favorite movies/T.V. Shows knows of my love for Balto. I don't shy away from sharing my opinions on my favorite movies. My family is fine with what I like. Other than some younger children thinking I was like a kid myself (which resulted in my explaining that I was not like a kid. I am an adult that loves animated movies). I have not been given any trouble. I do get slightly embarrassed when I tell people how much I Love The Lion Guard. I feel no embarrassment over my feelings for this show, but even I have to laugh when I admit that my favorite T.V. show is in fact a preschool show.
